This series is a multi-level metaphor. It represents man's interaction with nature; but also, the effect on any living, valued thing (be it an elephant or an idea) when we treasure it too highly. Even in our kindnesses we are often cruel. The piece also explores the power of combination. Taken individually, the elephants are no more than pretty trinkets; it is their juxtaposition in a specific order that gives them depth.
