A collaboration with David Tinapple, as part of our participation in the Outside Project 2006. We re-created Alvin Lucier's piece "I am sitting in a room" in a digital context. We replaced the analog process of switching tapes with a continuous digital audio input/output loop. Then we shortened the loop interval to a fraction of the length of Lucier's statement. These two steps turn a painstakingly crafted document into a live, interactive event. The audience provided sound, then observed as it metamorphosed into the resonant frequencies of the room.
The location of the piece gives form to the resonant frequencies. This video is from a Turkish bathhouse in Belgrade, Serbia.
Note: the man present in most shots of the video is neither Tinapple nor myself. He was just extremely interested.
